Sometimes we forget what we love as we go through the motions of life.
What was it that made you excited 20 years ago? We talk about reinvention, but sometimes it’s hard to figure out where to start. It takes a little effort to reconnect, but when we do it’s worth it. Sometimes we need an outlet, some beauty, a challenge to truly feel alive and energized. The same old routine can drag us down and cause us to stop realizing our own potential and all that life has to offer.
Pursue your passions and make them work for you. Growing up you might have been told not to waste your time painting, playing the drums, dancing or pursuing some passion you had because: “You won’t make money doing that — get a real job…”
Well, I have to say the opposite and declare that it’s time to reignite those passions and interests and make them an essential part of your life. What would you do if you had the time? An opportunity to dream a little? Is there a hobby or skill you want to pursue? A place you want to travel? A language to learn? A new exercise or sport you’ve been anxious to try but just haven’t found the time?
So, why not start today? What’s stopping you? Who’s stopping you?
Make a list — an action plan. Be detailed and approach it in baby steps if you have to, inch toward it, and the more you get into it, the faster you’ll move toward your goal.
Take another look at the picture at the top of the post…AMAZING, isn’t it?
It isn’t just a dream. Far from it…this is one of the MANY passions my friend Joseph Caulkins is juggling today:
Joe might struggle at times as we all do, but he always moves on…one foot in front of the other, one mountain after another, one success after another. 2013 marked the year he succeeded in climbing the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. And his journey continues today, one mountain at a time.
My life has definitely been changed by Joe and his life journey passions. I hope you all received a sense of, “I CAN DO THIS” like I have.
